032214 Day 3 in Death Valley

We went to two places in Death Valley today, Dante's View and Zabriskie Point.

Dante's View is on top of a 5000+ foot mountain.  The last quarter mile to the top is a 15% grade.  It provides an amazing view of the valley below and the Panamint Range on the western side of the valley.

The top picture is Bad Water Basin, the lowest place in the Western Hemisphere.  The second picture is the snow capped Telescope Peak, which is over 11,000 feet in the Panamint Range.  Bad Water is 22 miles from Telescope Peak.  Nowhere else can you find this extreme (low to high) so close.

The temperature on top of Dante's View was in the mid 40's.  Off the mountain they were in the mid 60's.

After Dante's View, we went to Zabriskie's Point.  Another tremendous view, except different,  You got a view of some real badlands,  I came back at the end of the day to try to get a few sunset shots.

These are some shots taken from Zabriskie Point.

Furnace Creek is a privately owned resort in the middle of Death Valley.  It includes restaurants, an Inn, RV parks, swimming pool, and a golf course.

Tomorrow we leave Death Valley and head to Los Angeles.  More on that in the next post.
