031514 Pit Stop at Beatty, NV

We stopped at Beatty, NV before heading into Death Valley.  While at Beatty we were toured Rhyolite, NV.  That's a short lived gold rush boom town that began in 1904, and was finished by 1916.

This shot is of the 2nd school built at Rhyolite.  Ironically, by the time it was finished, most of the students were already gone from Rhyolite.  Here are some other images taken at Rhyolite.

The next two are of one of two banks that opened in Rhyolite.

The next one is of the old railroad depot.

The following two pictures are of a house made of glass bottles.

I've read Rhyolite is the most photographed ghost town in Nevada.  I can believe it.  A number of folks stopped by while we were there.  The gentleman who ran the free museum gave us some background.  What he also liked to do is make images of the old town, specializing in photos of electrical storms.  I bought one.

This is another very interesting place we have visited since leaving home back on Feb 24th.

We took US 95 from Las Vegas to Beatty.  The lower part of the trip was kinda boring, however up in the Amargosa Valley, the mountains were quite interesting.

Mary took this one from the truck while cruising up US 95 from Las Vegas.

By the time we get back to the eastern US, I will have forgotten what trees are.  :)

Changed oil in the truck while in LV.   We've put a lot of miles on it already.

Tomorrow morning, we do head into Death Valley.  I suspect there will be no wifi anywhere.  We'll be in a relative communications black hole.  It may be 4-5 days before I'm back on line.

See you then.

Revised 4/14/14.  Added narrative and pictures.
