These Longhorn cattle were at the RV Park at Fredericksburg.
On Mar 4 after dropping the trailer, we drove over to a crossroads called Doss, TX.
Actually. it's a T, not a crossroad. It is named after 2 Doss brothers from Virginia who moved to Fredericksburg in the 1840's, and started a mill. We were walking around Doss taking pictures of any thing that had the name Doss on it.
These photos are from the Doss School. It and one other relatively small building are the schools for the Doss community. All grades are taught in these two buildings.
A older lady came out of the polling place (Tuesday was the Republican primary) looking for the people who were taking all the pictures. Turns out she is married to the 4th generation Lange who bought the mill and land from the Doss brothers.
She told us how to find the mill, so we drove out there.
The above picture is the river that runs next to the Lange Mill. There is still water flowing down hill beside the mill. I'm not sure if that water is diverted from the river upstream, or if it's a natural spring that surfaces just above the Mill.
We exchanged addresses. She said she would send me a copy of the original deed transferring the property from the Doss brothers to the original Lange.
The lady we met is an absolute cracker jack. Cool, down to earth, yet feisty. She believes in her guns. I joked, "You are a Texan!" She says the next time thieves come by the old mill, she's going out with with her .308. We sat and talked for maybe 15-20 minutes, just like we were old friends.
Revised 4/12/14. Narrative revised and added, plus pictures added.
